AUTHORITY
The Petaling Jaya Municipal Council or MPPJ is the local authority responsible for the administration and development of Petaling Jaya.

BEGINNING
Petaling Jaya has a humble beginning of a little town that grew, starting from 1952 with an area of only 2.12 sq. km.

COUNCILLORS
The MPPJ has 24 councillors, headed by the Yang Dipertua (President) who is appointed by the Selangor Darul Ehsan State Government.

DISTRICT
Petaling Jaya or better known as PJ is an area located in the district of Petaling.

ESTABLISHMENT
The original reason for the establishment of Petaling Jaya was to alleviate the increasing congestion of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.

FIRST
Petaling Jaya goes into record as the first planned town of Malaysia, and the authorities has pledged to make it a model for progress.

GROWTH
The growth of Petaling Jaya has been phenomenal ever since it obtained municipality status in 1977.

HOTELS
There are four international-class hotels and two 3-star hotels besides other budget hotels in Petaling Jaya today.

INDUSTRY
Petaling Jaya plays an important role as Malaysia's first commercial and industrial centre.

JAYA
'Jaya' a local word for success was added to its name in 1953 to reflect the continued growth of the township.

KENNEDY
The Petaling Jaya local authority was set up in 1954, with N.A.J. Kennedy as its first administrator.

LANDMARK
The most notable landmark of Petaling Jaya is the ultra-modern 27 storey Menara MPPJ.

METROPOLITAN
Petaling Jaya today is a metropolitan centre with about 500,000 residents within 51.4 sq.km.

NATURAL
Petaling Jaya has managed to preserve its natural beauty and efforts are being made to maintain its "garden city" concept.

OPPORTUNITIES
Petaling Jaya with its large and skilled population and well-developed infrastructure, offers excellent investment opportunities.

PROGRESS
Petaling Jaya today has become a planned town that symbolises the progress and prosperity of Selangor Darul Ehsan in particular and the nation in general.

The Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) won a series of distinction awards including the Local Authority Quality Award.

RESIDENTS
Today, Chinese from 55 per cent of Petaling Jaya residents while 30 per cent are Malays, 13 per cent Indians and 2 per cent comprise other races.

SUBANG PARADE
The pride of Petaling Jaya, Subang Parade is the longest shopping complex in Asia.

TRADE ZONE
The Selangor State Government gazetted a 0.34 sq.km area in Sungai Way as a free trade zone in 1972.

UNIVERSITY
There are now 30 primary schools, 16 secondary schools, 23 private colleges and universities including International Islamic University campus branch, Universiti Institute Technology Mara campus branch, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) campus branch, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unitar) and Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Petaling Jaya.

VISION
In line with the country's Vision 2020, PJ's rapid growth into a cosmopolitan center will see the redevelopment of PJ Old Town at a cost of RM28 million.

WEEK
The MPPJ Week which was first held in 1992 and will continue thereafter is to enhance relations with rate payers and members of the corporate sector.

ZONE
The new Petaling District and part of Klang District Structural Plan has divided it into 10 zones.
